Why use our services?

There are many reasons that our customers turn to these therapies and some are listed below.

  • to seek help with a medical condition, as an adjunct to standard medical care
  • for additional support while dealing with a chronic medical condition
  • to help with relaxation
  • to improve mood, and mental wellbeing
  • to aid sleep
  • to relieve tension
  • to reduce anxiety and stress
  • to promote a sense of general well-being

Can you treat specific conditions?

Due to the individualised nature of the therapies used at the Wellhaven Clinic, it is impossible to provide guarantees of whether we can help with specific conditions, however, the British Acupuncture Council has produced a series of comprehensive research fact sheets that summarise the research that has been done in terms of treating certain conditions.

Next Steps

If you choose to come to the Wellhaven Clinic, here’s what happens next…

Initial consultation

During the initial consultation, the practitioner will take detailed notes covering all aspects of your life and past experiences. Topics include your main reason for visiting the clinic, your family, work, relationships, health, medical history, sleep quality, diet and many more. The second part of the initial consultation involves a physical examination, which you will need to undress to your underwear for – your modesty is protected by blankets and towels. Then the first treatment will take place.

It’s really important to make sure you’re not doing anything after your first treatment as many people are very tired and need to rest.

Follow-up treatments

Usually, we need to see you regularly for the first few treatments. It depends on the individual and the condition but as a rough guide we say 5 treatments, one week apart. After five treatments we usually have an idea whether the treatment is helping and how regular subsequent treatments need to be.

Maintenance treatments

We do try to do ourselves out of work and the overall aim is to get to a point that you no longer need treatment, however, even with a really successful set of treatments, we recommend 5 annual maintenance treatments on-going. The nature of our busy lives generally mean that most people benefit from occasional ‘tune-ups’. Traditionally, it was an acupuncturist’s job to keep you well, rather than treat disease, so regular maintenance treatments have this goal in mind.
